A Chance of Snow?!

I've decided to keep my blog title picture with our snow scene up as long as I keep hearing that there is more snow coming. :-) Although, I really do long for Spring!

I Love Ross!

Ross, the store, that is! On my last post, I mentioned that I couldn't find the hardware to the curtain rod that we were going to put up. So, I went to Ross and got another curtain rod. Actually, we like this one even better and I got it for half the price that I would have anywhere else. I love Ross! The found the curtains at Walmart. After months of searching, they got in a whole new line. This is part of their Better Homes and Gardens Home line and they are perfect for this room! The wall sconces were a Christmas present from Andy. I have been waiting to put them up. I knew exactly where to put them and I think it really finishes the window area off.

Oh, and I found the mission-style end table on Craig's list and picked that up yesterday after I went to Ross. It was a very successful and rewarding day (at least, as far as the family room project was concerned!)

Where Is It?!

We're pretty much done with the room. We're slowly putting things back in. I think we've decided on where the big stuff is going. Hopefully, today I can find a good deal on a black curtain rod so we can hang the curtains tonight. I had bought one, but since the moving of everything, the hardware to it is missing. How does that happen?! I even put it all in a baggy and put everything together in the box. Go figure. Ross, here I come!

Family Room Redo Part 7

We got carpet! Yay! It always amazes me what a difference new carpet can make. But then, I say that about paint too. So true, so true!





Mike Kostik installed it all. We first met Mike 29 years ago, when we bought our first house and had him install our carpet there! He's been doing our carpet ever since. Great guy. Great job.



Now, comes the task of finding a home for everything we took out of the room. Some, we'll bring back and a lot definitely won't be seeing this room again. For now, I'll just savor the clean and bright, new, echoing room.

Today, we grouted the tile. That was so easy! I don't know what I was so worried about! Now, we let it cure for a couple of days before we seal it all. I'm likin' it!

Family Room Redo Part 6

OK....it's tiling day! Finally! First Lamar installed the cement backerboard.



Then, we put the mortar down.



Then, we started laying down the tile. Made me really nervous. But, we're halfway there.


Next, we wait for the mortar to set...an additional 24-36 hours. Oh wait, we did something wrong. I won't go into details, but we ended up remedying it by adding a border around our original tile. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Lorraine and Dean Marsh for letting us borrow their brand new tile saw to do the cutting we needed. You're getting a dinner out with the Friesens!



Grouting is next. Then we wait again for the grout to cure before we seal it all up and call it good. Whew!
