Family Room Redo Part 6

OK....it's tiling day! Finally! First Lamar installed the cement backerboard.

Then, we put the mortar down.

Then, we started laying down the tile. Made me really nervous. But, we're halfway there.

Next, we wait for the mortar to set...an additional 24-36 hours. Oh wait, we did something wrong. I won't go into details, but we ended up remedying it by adding a border around our original tile. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Lorraine and Dean Marsh for letting us borrow their brand new tile saw to do the cutting we needed. You're getting a dinner out with the Friesens!

Grouting is next. Then we wait again for the grout to cure before we seal it all up and call it good. Whew!

A Little Reminder

Just a little reminder to those of you who don't have an account with blogspot, you can comment "anonymously" and then just end your comment with your name! It's easy...and painless. I promise! Love to hear from you all! I know you're out there. Come on, make my day!

Family Redo Part 5 1/2

I don't have much more to add as of the last couple of days. We've been taking a breather. But, I did want to show you the Porcelein tile that we got. We really like it. It'll look even better when it's installed!

The carpet is now going to be installed on Tuesday. At least, that's where it stands today. We're going to take out the carpet tonight and I THINK, start the tiling process. We promise to keep you posted!

Family Room Redo Part 5

It only took one coat of ceiling sealer/primer, two coats of ceiling paint, two coats of Bagel, one coat of dark blue primer, and two coats of Roasted Pepper, but we finally got it all painted! This isn't the greatest picture of how the colors actually are though. Sorry about that.

Next, we need to tile an entry pad by the garage door entrance. We'll be ripping out the old carpet. Carpeting was to be installed on Friday, but due to miscommunication between us and the installer, it won't be done until Monday. Phooey! We were hoping to be all done by this weekend. Lamar is off. After the carpet is installed, we'll need to bring everything...well, not everything (see Family Room Redo Part 1) back into the family room and redecorate. I'm looking for bookcases or an entertainment type unit, an end table or two and whatever....on Craig's List. Got to keep bargaining if we're going to get this done and lookin' good!

My big question is...why is it that the rest of the house ends up being a disaster when we're only redoing one room?

Family Room Redo Part 4

You're probably wondering how many parts does this family room redo have....seems to be growing by the day...at least it feels like it :-)
Yesterday, we had the ceiling professionally textured. Boy, are we glad we had it done. It took most of the day. Probably would have taken us two!

We're really happy with how it turned out. No more popcorn ceiling in the family room! Yay! Next, we had to wait for it all to dry, so Friday we didn't do much as far as the room was concerned.

But, today, we started painting the ceiling. First, we had to seal and prime it. Then we waited for that to dry. Then, the paint came on. Sorry to say that it's looking like we'll need a second coat, so I guess I get to do that tomorrow while everyone is back to school and work.

Then, we started trimming out the room with the color. Ran out of time, as we are having our home group here tonight. Gives us a nice break!
Don't you like Brittany's contribution on the back wall? That's Bertha. She helped to keep us smiling.
