I know, I know...you want to borrow my work gear! We could probably work something out.

Family Room Redo Part 3
Next...scraping the popcorn ceiling off. Quite messy work, but oh, so worth it! We sprayed it with a fine mist of water and then scraped away. Came off really easy, but it took awhile because it's such a big room.

I know, I know...you want to borrow my work gear! We could probably work something out.

Family Room Redo Part 2
Next, we taped the walls up with plastic and started on the woodstove pad and hearth. But first, always make sure you have the correct protective gear on! Woops, I suppose glasses would be better too. (Don't worry, we ALL had them for this brick flying experience!)

Lamar got all these tools, special saw blades and bits and finally, we just decided, the best and easiest way to do it was to go to it with a sledgehammer.
And that's just what we did! Boy, was that ever satisfying!

And look what we found when we uncovered the bricks....a duck pond complete with daffodils in our family room! Unfortunately, all that wallpaper has to come off, so we've been working on that inch by inch. Melissa, I feel your pain!

Family Room Redo Part 1
Here we go! I don't know about you, but between the three of us here at home, we get these ideas in our heads and sometimes...we run with it! Yikes! And of course, along the way, we're thinking, what have we got ourselves into?! But, we're moving along. The first part we needed to do was to get everything out of the room. It's a big room! Bigger than we thought! And boy, did we have a lot of "stuff" in it!

I'm embarassed to say that we have way too much stuff in this room and most of it, we haven't even set eyes on for years! So much of it just got put back in cupboards or cabinets. You know those black holes that I'm talking about! I know you do! Well, this definitely is going to be the perfect opportunity to get rid of it all!

Beach Time First!
Lamar and I have the week off. We have planned to demolish our family room...but first, we took the time to spend two nights at Seaside. It was so relaxing...and we had beautiful weather! Yay!
February Friesen Birthdays
February is a big birthday month in this Friesen family. So, Sunday, Lamar and I went over to Dean and Beth's to celebrate them all. Happy 85th Birthday to Lamar's dad, John. Happy 84th birthday to Lamar's mom, June. And Happy 45th birthday to Lamar's brother, Dean.
