Memories

Monday, February 25th, 2008...marked the five-year anniversary of my dad's death. Not something I really want to dwell on, but a part of my life that has had a big impact on me, as well as the rest of my family. Lamar was on his last day of vacation, so we took my mom and my sister, Lori up to Willamette National Cemetery in Portland where dad is buried. Andy met us up there on his way to work. They always seem to be doing major construction or improvements up there. A reminder that yup, people keep dying.
It is always a somber time when we take mom. She gets very emotional as she still misses dad very much. We brought some flowers and brightened up the little spot of land that we know how to find by heart in the sea of grave markers.

I'd like to remember the good times that we had with dad, so I thought I'd share some of the old memories with you.<

February Vacation Week

Last week was a vacation week for Lamar and I. Our first stop was to go to Seaside (yes, again!). We stayed two nights at the Trendwest Resort there. It is our favorite place to go (that's close to home...but far enough away).
It was just the two of us and it really was relaxing. And although you can't tell from the pictures that I have posted here, we had great weather. Monday was beautiful. Tuesday, the fog didn't start rolling in until later in the day when we were ready to come in anyway. Tuesday night it rained. Wednesday morning, we woke up to blue skies again!
Yeah, we didn't complain!

We then came home for a few days, but headed on up to Olympia with our friends, Mac and Lynnette McCord. We visited and spent the night at John and Pat Davises home. We have been friends since we moved to Warren 20 years ago. They moved a few years after that, but we have always kept in touch. They have a beautiful place overlooking the water.

We really had a great time catching up and laughing. We did laugh a lot. You can't help it when you get the six of us together! We had beautiful weather there too. Pat said it had been months since she woke up to blue sky. We told her, we just bring it with us...it's the kind thing to do when you are guests.
