Curly Girly

Our granddaughter, Rile' is now 17 months old. Wow, how the time is flying by!
We think she's getting cuter by the minute! These pictures were taken right after her bath and so her hair was especially curly. She is in the jabbering stage. She's always a talking. Unfortunately, she's the only who knows what she's saying. That's OK. We like it anyway!

The Eagle Has Landed!

Sunday afternoon, Lamar and I took a nice, long walk before we had to head back to our church activities. Right before reaching our house, one of our neighbors let us know that we had a visitor. We looked up in one of the large fir trees and sure enough, a bald eagle had landed. He stayed well past an hour to our delight.
What is it about seeing a bald eagle? Although we have seen many bald eagles flying overhead, this was the first time we had actually seen one perched in a nearby tree. We felt like we had been given a special gift for the day!

Our Quick Trip to DC

Mom and I flew to DC on March 1st and came back on the 7th. We had a great trip.
It wasn't just the surprise for Tante Dorle and Uncle Steve, but also just being able to visit a little with my cousins. We stayed with my cousin, Tom and his family on both ends of the trip. They treated us like royalty and we enjoyed getting to know the family, if just a little bit.

Since we had an extra day between the time we got there and the day of the big party, Tom and Marci asked if we would like to see DC. Mom and dad had always wanted to go, but never made it, so this was quite a treat for her and me too.

Tom arranged a staff-led private tour of the Capital Bldg. Mom couldn't believe how beautiful everything was inside.


Of course, this was a quick trip (1/2 day) and you can spend weeks in DC and not see everything! But, some of the other highlights of the afternoon were: Lincoln Memorial, Arlington, Iwojima Memorial, and the new Air Force Memorial.

Happy 50th Anniversary, Tante Dorle & Uncle Steve!

Last week, I flew to DC with my mom. Our mission: To surprise my Tante Dorle and Uncle Steve at their surprise 50th anniversary party. And boy, did we accomplish our mission! It was great to be able to be there and celebrate with them all.

My dad took this wedding picture. There is a story behind this picture that I just found out while we were there. While dad was taking pictures, they were sitting there all glum-looking. Dad said, "What's the matter with you two? You look like you've already been married for 50 years!!" So, they cracked up! Now when Tante Dorle and Uncle Steve's kids were choosing pictures to display at the celebration, they didn't know the story behind this picture either. It makes me think that it was dad's way of being at that 50th celebration along with the rest of us.

So, Tante Dorle and Uncle Steve (and all the rest of us who were there) now have some more beautiful memories to remember.
