Zoo

Lamar had a long weekend, so inbetween making two trips to bring our "new" entertainment center/wall unit home and doing yard work, we got the chance to take our grandkids to the zoo again. They were excited as usual. What we didn't realize was that the big Joan Baez concert was that evening, so we fought the enormous crowd at the start, but then we didn't have to wait in "their" line, so then we moved on with no problem. Wheew. That was a close one!

This time, we focused on Africa. We saw Giraffes, Monkeys, Hippos, Rhinos...among others of course. And, we had to see baby Sam, the Elephant too before we left. He's so cute! But, little Sam just wouldn't show his face while we were there. Mostely we saw the other end. Got lots of pictures of the other end. :-)

It's funny how kids will not only enjoy the main attractions, but will always find great excitement in the little things too...like the mistings that you get running...oh, did I say running, I meant walking, through the jungles of Africa. They thought that was too funny!

30 Years and Counting!

Tuesday, August 4th was our 30th wedding anniversary. How does 30 years go by that quickly! Since we will be doing our major celebrating the end of September by going to Hawaii(49 more days, but who's counting), we kept it pretty simple. After Lamar got off work, we went to Hillsboro's Jenkins Estate and listened to one of our favorite Portland artists, Michael Allen Harrison with his band. It was perfect outside. We ordered Applebee's Car Side to go for dinner and had a picnic while listening to great music. And like the 30 years behind us, it went way too fast.

This is one of my favorite wedding pictures. Could I have been any more covered up!? Good grief. That was the style though, in 1979. I had a very "in" dress. :-) And yes, I was roasting in it. After all, it WAS August!

Popcicle Days

How do we enjoy this hot summer weather? Hammock + popcicles = ahhhhhh! Now you're talkin'!

Dragon Bee

While the grandkids were over on Saturday, they spent the evening playing in their little purple pool. Rile' spotted this little guy sitting on top of a metal plant stand.
In her words..."Papa, is that a Dragon Bee?" :-)

Stain

We finally got the back deck/porch stained. We originally wanted to go with a natural stain, but decided it looked too yellow, so we changed our minds and went with a Red Cedar Stain. We love the way it turned out and it's nice to be able to go out the back door again (even if it's only been a couple of days).
