California Trip #2

Didn't you just go to California a couple of months ago, you may ask? Yes! We did...but that was for nephew, Matt's wedding in Yucaipa. This trip was visiting Mahlon and Darlene in Cayucos on the central coast. We had a great visit. Even spent a few hours in San Fran-Fisherman's Wharf and took in the sights. Brittany was a little bored with all us old people, but she did have her moments of fun too...really...no, really.




We hiked up a good sized hill in a state park to get this view of Cayucos in the distance. It was a perfect day to be up high.




Our first day there, Mahlon and Darlene took us to Morro Bay and we ate at a great place right on the water.


Mahlon and Darlene surprised us with a special place to stay...some friends from their church let us stay at their place a couple of blocks down the road. We had our own apartment right across the street from the sand. It was a real treat!
Close by to Mahlon and Darlene but we felt free to pop and in and out whenever we needed to.

On the way, was a bird sanctuary...I can't think of the name offhand, but it was in the neatest grove of Eucalyptus Trees. Made for a great photo op!


At Morro Rock, there was a family of Sea Otters...made for great entertainment while we ate our Burritos!


We took walks through town, to the long pier to watch the pelicans and the Boogie Boarders, checked out the farmer's market and always...the antique stores.


The Fourth of July! What fun! We started with a parade through town...their church even had a float which they put together in our driveway. We walked the town again, went down to the beach to see the sand sculptures, joined in on a bbq in the afternoon and...




watched the...fireworks??...off the pier...well, OK, so we couldn't see the fireworks because of the fog bank that settled in town later that day...Bummer...but, we'll always remember the fireworks in Cayucos on the beach!




Hearst Castle was also on our list of things to do while in the area. We weren't disappointed. There is oh, so much more to see.




After visiting Hearst Castle, we drove a little bit farther to eat lunch at a resort/restaurant that had wonderful pathways to photograph the beautiful coastline. Then, after we filled our bellies, we went to see the Elephant Seals that come every year to do what they do. They were very interesting to watch..."in the wild."




We took Hwy. 1 up the coast to Monterey. It was a beautiful drive...slow, but worth it. One last stop...San Francisco. We spent a few hours at Fisherman's Wharf, taking in one of the many offered cruises around the bay, getting some lunch at one of the quaint cafe's and then going to the Wax Museum. Drove through the city on the way back to the hotel. Took a half an hour just to get through downtown, but it was interesting to see a different city up close before returning home.
